extended schools
Having just bumped into our new social responsibility person and nearly had a frank discussion on extended schools, what do people think-
Extended schools are another excuse for parents to stay away from their families longer - discuss

Perhaps many "families" ie mothers, need safe, reliable childcare in order to earn a living? Not all women are at home baking scones waiting for the return of their children from school. (Although many christians would preach this)
This is just the same old misogynist crap about a "woman's place" disguised by using the words "families" and "parents". I know what you really think!

Those who know me well know I'm a christian with a feminist bent, and no time for 'headship lalala,' BUT I can't help feeling uncomfortable with this, because of my nephew. He's 5, and he HATES tuesdays, becuase it's the day he gets dropped off at nursery at 8am, then goes to school, and doesn't get picked up from after school club until 6. He's been evidently very anxious on these days (he goes to after school club/nursery on other days, but this is the only LONG day). Recently he burst into tears and told his teacher he hates tuesdays because he worries no one will come to pick him up.
I just can't see how subjecting such young children to such profound insecurity at such a young age can possibly be good?
SOME mums need to work, because they are the only income in the family - and they need support from Churches and community - and maybe this is because of the area I'm living and working in - but the vast majority of people around here have both parteners working not beacuse they would be in poverty otherwise - but beacuse they have fancy cars, exotic holidays kids in private schools etc.
Miz - i think you're spot on with goverment response to govt created problem!
