Risk Assessments

My wife was at the local infant school helping make tat out of tat that parents had paid for, so parents could give money to kids so they could buy the tat back (usual thing for christmas) and off in the distance a bell rang........... and it carried on ringing until, ten minutes later an irate fat bint headmistress ambled in and berated the gatered mothers because they had not exited the hall after the fire bell went off!

My wife casually offerred that maybe they would have if the noise was louder and recognised as a 'fire alarm'. 'BUT NO' the bint replies 'we cannot have a loud fire alarm it might hurt the childrens ears'. My wife replies 'but what about the poor deaf children?' 'knackers to them' she says 'their deaf' (That last bit starting from 'my wife replies' isnt ture but I swear the rest is. We now cannot have recognisable, loud fire alarms in the local infant schools because it will hurt their ears.

Where would technology be today if we would have had todays level of risk assessment 200 years ago? Can I suggest cars would look more like the flintstones, with gaps in the bottom so we could run along the floor - the combustion engine? Invented (in theory but never built) by Christian Huygens in 1860 using GUNPOWDER AS FUEL! Imagine the scene "Im sorry Mr Huygens you cannot build that its too risky"

Anyway - death to risk assessors everywhere! Long live silly messy dangerous youth clubs, they never did me any harm.
